A Serious Omission!

Posted by Kate Kerse on Friday, July 30, 2010 / 0 Comments

After reading last weeks post I realised I forgot to report what was probably the best part of last week: the Band hop. As part of Nevill Cup Selwyn and Knox both have a band, and the bands faced off last Saturday at Refuel. Both bands were incredible and while Knox did take the victory (by three points I'm told), you can't deny that Selwyn has some serious musical talent this year. So a huge congratulations to Penny, Sophie, Jeremy, Tiho, Greg and James!

Back to work and working on Floor Missions

Re O-week, a much hyped series of epic nights was a huge success again, a massive thanks to everyone who helped organise, particularly our Social Rep, Hanafi. My favourite was (and it takes a lot to beat a Back to School hop in my opinion) the surprise party. Driven out in buses for half an hour we ended up at a massive barn and were left there with all the requirements for a great night, and a great night it was. All in all a fantastic week!

Monday was Back to School, Wednesday was a fluoro rave, Thursday was the Selwyn Classic golf followed by flat golf and Friday was the aforementioned surprise. Needless to say many of us were not feeling our best during classes but the nights were SO worth it.

After a week of relatively normal university though, Floor Missions were sprung on us. Each floor is given (you guessed it) a mission, and has only a few days to complete it and make a short film about it. We're currently in the editing process at the moment and they will be shown on Wednesday. Last year's were a massive highlight for me and I'm glad to say it's been the same this year!

Cranium and Crowded House

Sitting on hold to Studylink I thought what better time to post! Selwyn, after two long weeks of emptiness is finally filling again, with many of the college's members having returned over the past two days and many more due back over the weekend.

Which means university is back into it next week and thus we're all gearing up for Re-O Week. Personally I'm looking forward to Monday night- the Back to School Hop. For anyone reading who happened to attend St George's in Wanganui, that's the uniform I'll be repping- blue woollen blazer paired with red tartan culottes: what a combination.

Worth mentioning perhaps was the awesome game of Cranium played by residents last week: Hufflepuff playing a strong game right the way through to claim the match, and Ravenclaw clawing back from behind to take second. Slytherin took third and Gryffindor last, some two and a half hours after starting the game.

However it's back to hold music for me, look out for Re-O Week updates!
