Ah, to be back in Dunedin.
Selwyn is open during the university holidays, so us lucky med students whose holidays coincide with (as far as I'm aware) no other university in the country are back, with Selwyn all to ourselves. Which makes for a total of about 14 students, including the two non-med kids. In my case this means that I have a building, Woodthorpe, that usually houses 15, all to myself. Cue some rather loud music. Just in case I wasn't freaked out about this (which I'm not, it's surprisingly fun having a building all to yourself), my helpful neighbourhood SR reminded me before he left that there was in fact a Woodthorpe ghost. Cheers, Stu.
But the reduction in numbers hasn't meant there's nothing going on. We frequently sit around on the deck in the sunshine, sipping cocktails, sunbathing, marvelling at the weirdly wonderful weather Dunedin has put on for the few of us left. LOL jk, it's freezing and I put on a coat to walk to the dining room.
Jokes aside, it's been a bumper couple of weeks for Selwyn in terms of media exposure, its residents featuring in two Nightline reports in a week. There were, you could say, varying degrees of
exposure.
This strange, almost eerie quiet will not last for long though and most of us are in physical and emotional preparation for the sheer carnage of Re O-Week. Aptly described by last year's social rep as 'O-Week on speed', it is a week that most of us will remember most of, some of our parents will hear about some of, and, I'm sure, all of us are looking forward to.
Alas for now back to some work. LOL jk, I'm going to eat some chocolate and have a nap.
