Updates, a closure and Mario Kart.

It's been a wee while since my last post, so there's plenty of Selwyn antics for me to cover in this one! As we're now into April and nearing May, Selwyn is well into its annual battles with Knox- for the Cameron Shield and Nevill Cup (for sporting and cultural events respectively). A recent Nev event and a favourite among Selwynites is the annual Theatresports competition, which runs along similar lines to 'Whose Line Is It Anyway', and which was again taken out by Selwyn. A well-deserved congratulations to the team! There are of course many more events coming up soon (after all who comes to university to study), particularly the Chess against Knox which takes place this week.

In more local news, following up from Jimmy's blog, it's been confirmed that the Gardens Tavern, known to most as Gardies, has been sold to the University, to the distress of many. While it may not have been the classiest of establishment, it had character in spades and will no doubt be sorely missed by the student community.

But not to end on a sad note, thought I'd add one of the things I like about Selwyn at the moment: a love of Mario Kart. Yes, Mario Kart. As in Nintendo 64 Mario Kart. This is set up in Cats (Catacombs, our common room) as a semi-permanent fixture, and is currently popular among residents, with many a quick race played between lectures or after dinner. I'm yet to regain my previous form, having peaked in about 2001 while visiting cousins. I do plan to put in some serious training to rectify this.
